Renjo La is a 5340m pass that takes you from the heart of Khumbu valley to the adjacent sub-valley of Gokyo. The pass is probably the best viewpoint of the mountains of Khumbu with views of 4 of the world's highest mountains. Everest 8848m, Lotse 8514m Makalu 8463m, Cho Oyu 8201m. Besides these, you see Hungchhi 7029m, Chumbu 6859m, Pumori 7165m, Nuptse 7861m, Cholatse 6335m, Toboche 6367, Lobuche 6119m & Phari Lapche 6017m - all seem within touching distance.  The climb to the pass is challenging with steep rocky moraine-type terrain but it all seems worth it for what you get to see from the top. We also visit the Gokyo lake on our descent which makes this trek a great option for a complete experience of the Khumbu region in Nepal. A perfect mix of cultural experience, challenging climb and incredible views!

Arrive at the airport and transfer to the hotel. We are introduced to our trek guide and other members of the tour. Overnight at hotel.
We will make an early morning (2/3am) start for the journey to the Ramechhap airport (also known as Manthali airport). A 4 to 5 hour drive through the Nepali countryside crossing the beautiful towns of Dhulikhel, Mulkot and Khurkot brings us Ramechaap, a small town on the banks of Tamakoshi river. The flight takes 20mins to reach Lukla from Ramechaap. Upon reaching Lukla we start our trek to Phakding, our destination for the night. The trekking trail from Lukla descends to Tharo Koshi, a small settlement by a smll stream. Then, you trek to Phakding (2804 meters) on an gradual uphill trail. Overnight at lodge.
The river stays with us but the landscape is dominated by pure pine groves. We climb a while to rise above the gorge and then we reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. The trail is good and leads us to a confluence of rivers one coming from Khumbu and other from Thame. The last leg of our trail takes us over a breathtaking suspension bridge from where we climb for about 90 minutes to Namche on a wide switchback trail. Overnight at lodge.
Namche bazaar nestles between a pair of ridges amid the towering pinnacles of Khumbu. It is also the perfect place to rest and acclimatize before setting out any further on the trail. One gets spectacular views Ama Dablan (6856m), Nuptse(7896m), Lhotse (8511m) and Everest (8852m). Overnight at lodge.
It is rolling terrain with a mix of uphill and downhill but we gain a net altitude of 400m. We cross the village of Thamo & sumdo to reach Thame. Overnight Lodge
After the initial climb for half an hour, we go downhill all the way till the river bed of Bhote Koshi. From there is it a gradual ascent of 2 hours till Lungden which is the base of Renjo La pass. Overnight Lodge.
We rest for the day as we have gained considerable altitude and we have a long day upto the pass & beyond the next day. Overnight lodge
The ascent is about 1000m, which is a quite a challenge plus the trail takes you through varied terrain. The initial steep ascent leads to a gradual ascent and the last 300 m are the steep climb. Once you reach the beautiful small Renjo lake the climb to the top becomes steeper over boulders ,rocks and with steps at some places. But the effort is worth the view one gets. The best view in whole of kumbhu region of the Everst range with 4 8000m peaks and various other 6000m & 7000m peaks. The ascent takes around 5 hours (give and take one hour) depending on conditions and the descent to Gokyo will take another 2-3 hours. Overnight Lodge
You can rest or take a hike to the 4th or 5th lake of Gokyo or climb all the way upto Gokyo Ri. Overnight Lodge
We follow the main route of Gokyo now as we descend to the pretty little village of Dole. The descent is continuous and long but the views and the feeling of going home soon would keep you going! Overnight Lodge
We further descend to where we started from - to the heart of khumbu that is Namche Bazaar. Overnight Lodge
Familiar trail back down as we trek to Lukla. Overnight Lodge
We take the flight to Ramechap and drive to our hotel in Kathmandu. Evening free to roam around and shop in Kathmandu. Overnight Hotel
Trip ends with your transfer to the airport!

What to expect

A Challenging trek would typically last for about two weeks and will take you to altitudes above 5000m / 16,500ft. A routine day will have over 6 hours of hiking and will involve a great deal of ascending and descending on sparsely tread trails. The terrain will be varied on these treks and you can expect walking on moraines / boulder fields and cross small glaciers. Acclimatisation is a concern, the itineraries are carefully planned  and allow everyone to acclimatise to the increasing altitude. Exposure to cold temperatures is quite high on these treks, all participants are expected to have good quality equipment & clothing to enjoy these treks. A mix of wilderness, altitude, terrain and duration makes these treks challenging. Suited for people with high fitness levels looking for a challenge and capable of enduring two weeks in the outdoors.

Internal Flights: Please note that poor weather can cause delays on the flights on Kathmandu-Lukla sector. At the end of the trip you should book the afternoon flights out from Kathmandu which gives you a day against delay on the flight back from Lukla. Helicopters can sometimes fly when the scheduled fixed wing aircraft cannot. If your group is offered the opportunity to use a chartered helicopter, either flying up to Lukla or back to Kathmandu, the cost will be shared between those choosing to take this option. In the extremely unlikely event that flight cancellations cause you to miss your homeward international flight, we will render all assistance, but cannot be held liable for any extra costs incurred. You could explore having an insurance for your flight cancellations.
